CustomerGauge vs Qualtrics for B2B Customer Feedback
Both platforms will send your survey and calculate the score. The difference that decides a B2B programme is who the tool was built for, and whether it understands that six responses from one account are one relationship. Here is the honest comparison, including where Medallia fits and when Qualtrics is the better buy.

Disclosure first: Genroe is CustomerGauge’s exclusive partner for Australia and New Zealand. We implement it, we re-sell it, and we are not a neutral reviewer. But this is the same comparison we give to prospects, including the cases where we tell them Qualtrics is the better buy.
Both platforms will send a Net Promoter Score survey, calculate the score and draw a dashboard. Every platform does that now, which is why the feature checklist will not choose for you.
The question that decides which is best for a B2B programme is narrower: who was the tool built for, and does it understand that your customer is an account rather than an email address?
The Real Difference Is Who the Tool Was Built For
Qualtrics comes from market research. It is built for an analyst running a project: deep survey logic, statistical rigour, a report at the end. That heritage is a strength when research is the job.
CustomerGauge is built for operations. The intended user is a business person who opens a dashboard on Monday, finds which accounts need attention, and does something about it that week.
Neither is wrong. They solve different problems, and a vendor comparison chart rarely tells you which one you are buying.
The consequence shows up a year in.
A market research platform in the hands of an operations team gathers dust. An operational tool in the hands of an analyst gets under-used for exactly the analysis it is good at.
Account Weighting Is the B2B Dividing Line
In B2B, six survey responses from six people at one customer are one relationship, not six data points.
CustomerGauge is built on that. It is an account experience platform: responses roll up to the account, and the account view carries revenue with it.
More importantly those six data points aren’t equally important.
The chief executive of your second largest customer scoring you a three is a serious problem. A front line contact at your smallest account scoring a ten is nice.
A consumer-shaped tool sees those as equal weight - when they are not.
How They Compare on the Things That Decide a Programme
| CustomerGauge | Qualtrics Customer Experience | |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Operations teams acting on accounts | Researchers and analysts running studies |
| Unit of analysis | The account, weighted by revenue | The response |
| Best fit | B2B, mid-market and up | Medium to large enterprises, market research teams |
| Breadth | Customer feedback, deep | Customer, brand, product and employee research, broad |
| Getting started | Best practice settings are the defaults, adjustable as you go | Powerful survey builder and logic, configured to your design |
| CRM integration | Self service, bi-directional and real time, standard and custom objects, HubSpot, Salesforce and MS Dynamics | Integrations with Salesforce, Slack and Zendesk, reported by users as a strength |
| Reported drawbacks | Narrower than a full research suite | Steep learning curve on advanced features, higher pricing, limited dashboard customisation |
| Implementation in Australia and New Zealand | Genroe, its exclusive partner for both | Qualtrics or a global systems integrator |
The drawbacks column for Qualtrics comes from user reviews, summarised in our guide to NPS software. They are the complaints that recur, not our opinion of the product.
Reporting Your Own Staff Can Use
If your operations people can’t build their own reports without a market research specialist, a data analyst or a paid external consultant, then it’s a market research tool, not an operations tool.
With CustomerGauge the reports are easy to build and understand. It ships with an integrated view of every survey, response and contact out of the box, and business managers build and change their own reports.
The same design shows up in the learning curve.
CustomerGauge is an enterprise grade tool that arrives with best practice already set as the defaults, so you can collect and report on data quickly, then adjust those defaults as you learn what your business needs.
A research platform starts from a blank page, which is the right choice for a researcher and the wrong one for an operations team in week one.
CRM integration follows the same rule. It is self service and quick, hours rather than weeks, bi-directional and real time, across standard and custom objects, with HubSpot, Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics supported directly and other systems through the open API and webhooks.
Where Medallia Fits
Medallia sits at the large enterprise end of the same market as Qualtrics: a broad experience-management suite, sold to organisations with a dedicated CX function and the budget to match.
If you are a mid-market B2B business with 50 to 5,000 customers and no full-time research team, Medallia is usually more platform than the problem needs. If you are a bank, a telco or a national retailer with an established CX team and the budget (time and cost) to match, it belongs on the list.
The consolidation in this market is also important - it’s much smaller than it was only a few years ago. Medallia acquired Promoter.io in 2019, and Qualtrics shut down Delighted, which it had acquired in 2018, on 30 June 2026.
When Qualtrics Is the Better Buy
We tell prospects Qualtrics is the better choice when:
- Customer experience is one of several research programmes, alongside brand tracking, product research and employee experience, and you want them in one platform.
- You have analysts who will use advanced survey logic and statistical tooling, and who would find an operational tool limiting.
- Your organisation has already standardised on it, and the cost of running a second platform outweighs the fit.
If that is you, buy Qualtrics and run it well. A platform your people already know beats a better-fitting platform nobody adopts.
When CustomerGauge Is the Better Buy
CustomerGauge is the better choice when:
- Your customers are accounts with several contacts, and account-level and revenue-weighted views matter more than response counts.
- The people who will use it every week are account managers and operations leads, not researchers.
- You want the feedback wired into the CRM so surveys fire off real events, such as a project milestone or a delivery, rather than a quarterly send.
- You want your own staff to run the reporting, without hiring an analyst or paying a consultant every time the question changes.
- You want a local partner with a person you know, and you would rather not be a case number in a global support system with a different support person every call.
The Questions to Ask Either Vendor
Ask both vendors the same five questions, and compare the answers rather than the feature lists:
- If six people at one customer respond, what does the platform show me about that customer?
- Can I weight the view by revenue or account value, out of the box?
- Who in my business will open this weekly, and what will they see first?
- How does a survey get triggered by something happening in our CRM, and how is that configured?
- What does support look like in our time zone?
None of those are about features. All of them predict whether the programme is still running in two years.
The Tool Is Not the Programme
Whichever platform you choose, the software is not the reason the programme succeeds or fails.
CyberCX built a customer experience programme across twelve merged cybersecurity businesses using CustomerGauge, and the platform mattered. So did the COO presenting it more than 25 times, the decision to make response rate the primary KPI rather than the score, and closing the loop on every response.
The same pattern shows up in every result worth quoting. AccessPay lifted its Net Promoter Score from 15 to 53 in two years through consistent action, not through a dashboard.
Pick the tool your people will use. Then spend your energy on the process around it, because that is where the return comes from.
If you want to talk through which platform fits your business, book a meeting. If the answer is Qualtrics, we will tell you.
